CIEH is finalising environmental health priorities that will form part of their suggested legislative programme for the next Government.

These priorities will be used to influence and engage with the new Government with the aim of protecting and improving the health and wellbeing of people, local communities and business.

Following the General Election on 8 June, CIEH intends to put forward priorities that reflect the full range of environmental health disciplines, covering environmental protection, food safety, housing and regulation.

The proposed areas include:

  • Measures to improve air quality
  • Future of standards following repatriation of EU-led regulations into UK law
  • Initiatives to improve conditions in the private rented sector
  • Introduction of food hygiene ratings in England
  • Workplace initiatives to advance mental wellbeing
  • How best Governments can consider environmental health in their decision making

CIEH’s Chief Executive, Anne Godfrey, said: “These snap elections have provided us with the ideal opportunity to talk to the central government, and the devolved nations, about what environmental health priorities we want to see in their legislative programmes.

“This is all part of our desire to increase CIEH’s voice and influence amongst the key decision makers in the Westminster, Cardiff and Stormont and we welcome your thoughts on what you would like to see on the agenda over the next five years.”

If you would like to submit your ideas please email CIEH’s Public Affairs Manager Steven Fifer
