The CIEH is calling for volunteers to act as volunteers supporting environmental functions in the run up to the 2012 Olympics and Paralympics.

The volunteers will work alongside venue teams responsible for checking food safety in the Olympic Park and other competition venues across the country. In London, the volunteers will hlep the London Organising Committee of the Olympic and Paralympic Games (LOCOG) and catering contractors achieve high standards of food safety, respond to complaints or problems and contributing to contingency arrangements within the venues.

Sharon Smith, CIEH strategic projects director, said: ‘A number of people have registered their interest in becoming volunteers to support environmental health functions in the run up to and during the London 2012 Games but we need more. We are particularly looking for people who have food safety expertise. It’s now less than a year until the Games begin and we need to finalise the requirements for the volunteer teams that will be working with LOCOG.’

Applications from students who have carried out at least two years of study on an accredited course are particularly welcomed. The closing date for the applications will be 18 November. The appointment process will take place during December.
